Ancient Wisdom, Generative AI, and Coaching

A Profound Dialogue on What It Means to Be Human

The webinar on May 14th became something much more than a professional event—it was a moment of quiet transformation that touched me deeply.

We brought together three seemingly distant realms:

🕉️ ancient Tibetan wisdom

🤖 generative AI

🧭 and the practice of coaching.

What emerged was a profound conversation that reawakened a timeless question:

What does it truly mean to be human?

🔹 Key Themes and Highlights

Bridging Ancient Wisdom and AI

Rie Kohama emphasized that while AI can offer guidance, introspection is uniquely human. Her approach focuses on using technology not to replace, but to awaken inner knowing.

Spreading Tibetan Wisdom through AI

Sid Kapoor explained how their platform doesn’t seek to “expand” Tibetan wisdom, but to spread it—enabling access to teachings once limited to a few.

The Philosophical Challenge

I shared a story of how an AI clone of a psychologist was said to be more consistent, kind, and accurate than the original person.

This sparked a key reflection:

When AI outperforms humans in empathy, memory, and presence—can it help expand human potential rather than threaten it?

🔹 Voices from the Conversation

🧘‍♂️ Tenzin Lama

“I am the director of the Sichu Ling Monastery.

We rebuilt the monastery here in Dharamsala in 1984 with my teacher, Lama Tashi Kalsen.

This monastery is one of the most peaceful places in Dharamsala.

At 77, I continue my daily prayers, sadhana (spiritual practice), and small meditation sessions here.

Together with my wife, I also run a Tibetan restaurant.”

💡 Rie Kohama

"AI can offer remarkable guidance, but introspection is a human act. Modern tools should awaken, not suppress, our inner knowing."

🌍 Sid Kapoor

"We cannot expand Tibetan wisdom through AI, but we can spread it. AI enables many simultaneous conversations—bringing ancient teachings to people around the world."

🧠 Akihiko Morita (my reflection)

"Generative AI represents humanity's first encounter with a non-biological entity that speaks our language. The essential question is: how can this partnership help us become more fully human?"

💗 Rie Kohama (on ethics)

"Ethics, compassion, and spiritual inspiration—these are human-only functions. As we embrace AI, we must also deepen our human core."

💬 What Do You Think?

As we enter a world where non-human entities can engage us in conversation, perhaps for the first time in human history,

the real challenge is not just about technology.

It’s about how we redefine identity, compassion, and consciousness itself.

🔹 How do you envision humanity evolving alongside AI?

🔹 What remains uniquely human—and should it stay that way?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
